Piazza Roma is the heart of the city government, a true agora. The seventeenth-century Government Palace overlooking the square was built by order of Francesco Maria II Della Rovere in 1609. The project by the Urbino architect Muzio Oddi was completed in 1644.
In front of the town hall you can admire the Fountain of Neptune, commonly called by the Senigallians “l’monc’ in piazza” (the stump in the square) due to the lack of limbs. The origin of the statue is unknown although some hypothesize its Roman origins, while others believe it is the work of the Gianbologna school.
