Foro Annonario Struttura neoclassica progettata nel 1834 dall'architetto senigalliese Pietro Ghinelli

The Foro Annonario is a harmonious neoclassical brick structure, a welcoming square designed to expand the commercial spaces within the ancient city walls. Circular in shape, it houses the daily and picturesque fruit and vegetable market and, under the portico formed by a complex of 24 columns with Doric-style capitals, numerous local food and wine shops.

The Foro Annonario, designed by Senigallia architect Pietro Ghinelli in 1834, is one of Senigallia’s iconic sites, and its role as the quintessential urban space has remained unchanged since its construction. The heart of the Forum is the square itself, bordered by a complex of 24 columns with Doric-style capitals and, in the shadow of the portico, sheltered from the sun’s rays that reach it only at sunset, the ancient fish market.

But the Foro Annonario is also a fascinating stage for many important events, cultural events and shows. The recent renovation has also made it the cultural heart of the city: currently, the beautifully renovated attic rooms house the highly frequented Antonelliana Library and the Municipal Archives.
